Heritage Day and Historic Home Tours

Each year, the Historic Hernando Preservation Society teams up with the Hernando History Museum to present Heritage Day, a family friendly celebration of local Hernando history. In addition, friendly residents open their spectacular historic homes for the annual Historic Homes Tour. The event takes place in February. Information on the event can be seen below.

Heritage Day 2017

Heritage Day 2017 will be held on the grounds of the 1885 Train Depot, at 70 Russell Street in Brooksville, February 25th, from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. Vendors, demonstrators and artisans will wind their way along the Good Neighbor Trail.  In addition, you can enjoy some of your favorite foods;  hot dogs, ice cream, Italian ice, corn on the cob, just to name a few.  Music and history demonstrators will provide entertainment. Heritage Day is free to the public.

The Historic Home Tour ($15) will include two private homes (701 Museum Ct and 117 Brooksville Ave), the May-Stringer House Museum, the historic Train Depot, the one-room school house, and two History Stops on Main Street in front of the courthouse.

Heritage Day Festival and Historic Home Tour 2016

Heritage Day 2016 will be held on the grounds of the 1885 Train Depot, at 70 Russell Street in Brooksville, February 27th, from 9 a.m.-4p.m. Vendors, demonstrators and artisans will wind their way along the Good Neighbor Trail.  In addition, you can enjoy some of your favorite foods;  hot dogs, ice cream, Italian ice, corn on the cob, just to name a few.  

As you stroll down the trail, you may wish to stop at the gazebo where you can experience some of the featured entertainment.  The children can enjoy the petting zoo and pony rides.  Three beautiful historic homes will be showcased for the 2016 Historic Home Tour.  The proud homeowners have painstakingly restored these gems, and you will want to be a part of this amazing tour.  Whether you are interested in historic architecture, or interior design, these homes will satisfy your interests.  Also, all three museums will be opened for tours.  The Countryman One Room Schoolhouse, The 1885 Train Depot, and The May-Stringer House will have their doors open to welcome festival patrons.

Historic demonstrations, and period re-enactors will provide event goers with a true picture of “living history.” Although the festival is free, Historic Home Tour/Museum Tour tickets are available for a donation of $15.00 for adults, $5.00 for children 6-12, and children 5 and under are free.  Proceeds from ticket sales support the Hernando Historical Museum Association, as well as Historic Hernando Preservation Society.

Vendors and demonstrators are needed for the event.

VENDORS: Vendors are individuals or organizations that intend to sell items or services at this event for profit. There is a $30.00 fee payable to Hernando Historical Museum Association for anyone who is a vendor.

DEMONSTRATORS: Demonstrators are individuals or groups that intend to display, act out, enrich, or teach attendees. There is no fee charged to the public for the service they bring to the event. Demonstrators will not be charged an event fee.
