African Americans in Hernando County

Join long-time local resident Mabel Sims as she talks about the history of African Americans in Hernando County as part of the Hernando County Library celebration of Black History Month.

The event takes place on February 3, 2015 from 2:00-3:00 pm at the Main Library at 238 Howell Avenue, Brooksville, FL 34601.

Brooksville native Mable Sims, a descendant of early county residents, has worked for many years to preserve the buildings and artifacts on her family’s farm in Twin Lakes, one of Hernando County’s first African-American communities. She will speak about her ancestors and the history of African- Americans in Hernando County.
